Hello! I’m İlke Türkoral — a picture book illustrator, silent storyteller, and visual artist based in the Netherlands.

I was born in Turkey, where I spent my early years dreaming, drawing, and observing the quiet poetry of everyday life. My background in anthropology and anatomy shaped my deep curiosity for human nature, memory, and the invisible emotional worlds we carry within.

After moving to the Netherlands in 2018, I turned toward illustration. Becoming a mother was a turning point — through my daughter’s eyes, I rediscovered the magic of storytelling. That’s when I realized illustration wasn’t just something I enjoyed — it was my true calling.

My work explores themes such as migration, transformation, childhood, belonging, and nature. I combine traditional and digital techniques to create atmospheric, often wordless imagery. I believe some of the most powerful stories are told in silence.

In 2025, the first children’s book I illustrated was published in Turkey. Alongside commissioned work, I continue to develop personal picture book and visual art projects — stories without words, but full of feeling.

I spend my days with my daughter and two cats. In the quiet of Dutch forests, with my sketchbooks and a cup of tea, I keep drawing stories from the heart.

🇹🇷 Hakkımda (Türkçe)

Merhaba! Ben İlke Türkoral — Hollanda’da yaşayan bir çocuk kitabı illüstratörü, sessiz hikaye anlatıcısı ve görsel sanatçıyım.

Türkiye’de doğdum. Çocukluğum boyunca hayal kurarak, çizerek ve gündelik hayatın sessiz şiirini izleyerek büyüdüm. Antropoloji ve anatomi alanındaki eğitimim, insan doğasına, hafızaya ve içimizde taşıdığımız görünmeyen duygusal dünyalara olan ilgimi besledi.

2018 yılında Hollanda’ya taşındıktan sonra illüstrasyona yöneldim. Annelik bu yolculukta bir dönüm noktasıydı. Kızımın gözlerinden hikaye anlatmanın büyüsünü yeniden keşfettim ve çizmenin benim gerçek tutkum olduğunu fark ettim.

Çalışmalarımda göç, dönüşüm, çocukluk, aidiyet ve doğa gibi temaları işlerim. Geleneksel ve dijital teknikleri harmanlayarak çoğu zaman sessiz ama duygu yüklü, düşsel dünyalar yaratırım. Bazı hikayelerin kelimelere ihtiyaç duymadan anlatılabileceğine inanıyorum.

2025 yılında Türkiye’de resimlediğim ilk çocuk kitabı yayımlandı. Bunun yanı sıra, kelimelere ihtiyaç duymadan duyguları aktaran kendi sessiz kitap projelerimi geliştirmeye devam ediyorum.

Günlerimi kızım ve iki kedimle birlikte geçiriyorum. Hollanda’daki ormanların sessizliğinde, eskiz defterlerim ve bir fincan çay eşliğinde hikayeler çizmeye devam ediyorum.

🇳🇱 Over mij (Nederlands)

Hallo! Ik ben İlke Türkoral — een kinderboekillustrator, stille verhalenverteller en beeldend kunstenaar, gevestigd in Nederland.

Ik ben geboren in Turkije, waar ik als kind mijn dagen vulde met dromen, tekenen en het observeren van de stille poëzie van het dagelijks leven. Mijn achtergrond in antropologie en anatomie voedde mijn nieuwsgierigheid naar de menselijke natuur, herinnering en de onzichtbare emotionele werelden die we met ons meedragen.

Sinds mijn verhuizing naar Nederland in 2018 richtte ik me volledig op illustratie. Het moederschap bleek een keerpunt: via de ogen van mijn dochter herontdekte ik de magie van verhalen vertellen. Toen wist ik dat illustreren mijn ware roeping was.

In mijn werk verken ik thema’s zoals migratie, transformatie, kindertijd, verbondenheid en natuur. Ik combineer traditionele en digitale technieken om dromerige, vaak woordloze beelden te creëren. Ik geloof dat sommige verhalen het krachtigst zijn in stilte.

In 2025 werd mijn eerste geïllustreerde kinderboek uitgegeven in Turkije. Naast opdrachten werk ik ook aan persoonlijke projecten: prentenboeken en beeldende kunst waarin ik verhalen vertel zonder woorden, maar vol gevoel.

Ik breng mijn dagen door met mijn dochter en twee katten. In de stilte van de Nederlandse bossen, met mijn schetsboeken en een kopje thee, blijf ik verhalen tekenen — altijd recht uit het hart.
